Dressing-gown home

First blog post since May! What naughty homeowners we are. Our dry spell has been ended by Jon putting up a hook on our bedroom door.

Door sans hook (our dressing-gowns basically lived on the floor)

New hook, from Mum Guthrie

Our AMAZING DRILL that we now use whenever we can, even for the smallest jobs

Ta da! Dressing-gowns are happy.

Bank Holiday Sunday

Hannah spent another Bank Holiday in the garden. This time, sowing some seeds and that.
I made a video so that I could pretend to be productive, rather than having to help in the garden.

A sunny bank holiday well spent

It was a sunny day so Jon finished off the mini greenhouse! while I planted lots of seeds to fill it up.

We found some bed slats that someone was throwing out the other day, so clever Jon used his workmate and our new super drill/screwdriver to make a shelf structure to fit inside the greenhouse.

Amazing!!

Always listen to your Mum

Some time ago I asked if anyone knew what these surprise plants were. Were they weeds? Or something lovely that was hiding all along, an unexpected present from the former owners?

Well it turns out that Mum Guthrie was right and they are in fact anemones, not the sea creatures but these lovely flowers. They are truly gorgeous and a very nice addition to the Garden of Love, thank you former owners!

This isn't a lifestyle blog, you know!

There are several reasons why this is not a lifestyle blog. It's not like all those other house blogs you read that are mainly of scandi-style houses where no one lives. Sure, I grow amazing veg in my garden, make my own curtains and have candles in my fireplace but this blog is amateur and no-one is daydreaming about living here.

Reason #1: I'm too lazy to take good photos. I've got an A* in GCSE photography (don't you know) but I just can't be bothered to think/remember what I learnt over 15 years ago. Plus, when I was a lass my SLR was analogue, now we have a digital SLR and I haven't worked out how to use it properly and I'm far too reliant on auto mode.

Reason #2: People live in our house and those people are really messy and bad at putting things away. After putting up the curtain pole in the sewing room I noticed this corner of our landing and this sums it up very nicely.

Yes, that's the drill that broke in early December, and the advent calendar which has been down since January but has only made it to the top of the stairs. I don't even want to think about how long those bits of wood have been there.

The worst thing is that rather than tidying this landing I took a picture of it and came downstairs to blog about it instead.

lamp swapping

Jon's parents gave us this lamp a while ago and we've never been quite sure where to put it, and we haven't had a lampshade for it. We bought a lampshade the other day, but it didn't fit. So we just decided to swap the base for one we already had with a shade. So we've not really solved the problem, we still have a lamp without a shade, but we have moved it and therefore put it out of sight and mind for a while at least.

Doesn't it look smart next to a paper lantern of Jeremy Bentham's head.

Even smaller greenhouses

It was snowing on Thursday when Mum Guthrie came down for a special spring seed planting visit, but I decided my tomatoes couldn't wait any longer. Even with our new mini greenhouse, I didn't think they'd survive outside so we made some really tiny greenhouses to go on the window ledge above the radiator in the sitting room.
